Energy in Sub Saharan Africa

Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Summit held in Kempton Park, South Africa. They signed a memorandum of understanding for the Creation of an Electric Power Pool in the Southern Africa Region. The aim is to facilitate the development of a competitive electricity market in the SADC region, to give investors a opportunity to provide electricity and to make the Southern Africa region into an attractive region. The task is to develop renewable energy and increase accessibility to rural communities. The existence of African Energy Pools is a great opportunity for energy exchanges between African countries. SAPP consist of twelve interconnected countries: Angola, DRC, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
